Environment Data Copy Limitations
A common question from new customers is: "Can I copy my UAT/test data to production?"
Short answer: No, this is not supported.
Why Data Copy Is Not Available
GrowerIQ uses a multi-tenant architecture where data isolation is critical:
- Regulatory compliance: Production data must have a complete, auditable chain of custody from day one. Imported test data would break this chain.

Data integrity: Test environments often have inconsistent, incomplete, or intentionally incorrect data for testing edge cases.

License separation: UAT/test and production are separate licensed environments with different regulatory standing.

METRC/Track & Trace: For licensed facilities, all inventory must originate from actual regulatory transfers, not copied data.

What About Configuration?
While inventory data cannot be copied, some configuration can be recreated:
- SKU definitions - Can be exported as CSV and re-imported
- User accounts - Must be recreated (for security audit trail)
- Rooms/Zones - Can be quickly set up via the UI
- Scales/Hardware - Need fresh configuration for production
Recommended Approach for Go-Live
- Use UAT for training: Get your team comfortable with workflows
- Document your setup: Keep notes on configuration decisions
- Start production fresh: Enter real opening inventory on go-live date
- Verify integrations: Re-test any integrations in production with real credentials
Starting Fresh Is Actually Better
A clean production start provides:
- Accurate regulatory reporting from day one
- Clean audit trail with no test artifacts
- Opportunity to apply lessons learned from UAT
- Proper chain of custody documentation
