Connecting Climate Sensors and Seeing Readings on the Batch Record
GrowerIQ can collect readings from the climate control system you already run and turn them into the climate records
your batch documentation needs. This article walks through the whole flow: connecting a system, registering sensors,
browsing readings, and where they appear on the batch record.

🎯 Why This Matters
GACP and GMP audits ask for the climate history of every batch: what temperature and humidity the plants saw, in which
location, during which phase. Without an integration, that means exporting data from the climate computer and stapling
graphs to the batch record by hand.
With Environmental Monitoring connected:
- Readings sync automatically every hour from your climate control system
- The batch record builds its own climate section, covering the batch from creation to its last activity
- You can browse and chart any sensor, any location, any date range, and save the views you use most

✅ Prerequisites
Before you begin, ensure:
- The Environmental Monitoring module is enabled for your organization (start a trial from the Environment page if you
do not have it yet)
- Your user role has Environmental Monitoring access
- Your locations are set up under Administration > Locations
- Your climate control system is connected (for Priva, see the setup guide linked at the bottom)
📝 Step 1: Connect Your Climate System
Go to Administration > Organization Settings and open your climate system's tab. Enter the credentials from your climate
system vendor and use Test connection to confirm they work before saving.
!!! note "Nothing is written back" GrowerIQ only reads from your climate system. It never changes a setpoint or writes
anything back, so connecting it cannot affect your growing environment.
!!! tip "Using a climate system other than Priva?" Priva is the climate system GrowerIQ connects to directly today.
There is still a route for anything else: your system, or the integrator who maintains it, can push readings into
GrowerIQ through the API using the Equipment and Sensors scopes, up to 500 readings per request. Once the readings
arrive, everything else in this article works the same, including the batch record charts. See Creating and Managing
Integrations to request the API access.

Once connected, GrowerIQ discovers every measurement point your system exposes, and refreshes that list on every hourly
sync.
📝 Step 2: Register Sensors to Locations
Discovered measurement points only start collecting once you register them as sensors and tell GrowerIQ which location
they measure.
1. Go to Administration > Equipment
2. Click Add from Priva (or your connected system)
3. Select the sensors for one location - filter and sort the list to find the datapoints for a single location, then
tick them
4. Assign the location they measure
5. Review the confirmation and click Register Sensors
!!! tip "Pick the location, not the shelf" Assign sensors to the location they sit in rather than a shelf, rack or other
sub-location. The batch record looks for sensors on the location the batch was in, so a sensor filed under a
sub-location will not be found for batches recorded at the location above it.
!!! note "One location at a time" Each pass through the dialog registers sensors for one location. Reopen it for the
next one.
By default the list shows only datapoints that measure a climate parameter and actually report readings. Control points
(valve positions, pump switches) and static setpoints are hidden - tick Show setpoints and control points if you need to
see everything.

The row counts at the foot of the grid show how much of the catalogue is left after filtering. A large site can expose
over a thousand datapoints while only a fraction of them are climate measurements worth registering.
📝 Step 3: Browse Readings
Go to Environment in the main menu. Readings from all registered sensors appear in a data grid:
- Filter and sort any column from its header menu to narrow down a location, parameter or date range
- Chart readings over time: select the cells you want, right-click, and open the chart menu
- Save the views you use most with the Saved View control
New readings arrive on the hourly sync. When a sensor is first registered, GrowerIQ also backfills its recent history,
so charts have depth from day one.
Raw readings and hourly averages
The Granularity column tells you what a row is:

Recent readings are kept exactly as they arrived. Older readings are condensed to one hourly average per sensor, which
keeps long histories fast to chart without losing the shape of the data. The default window before condensing is
about 13 months, so a full year of raw readings is always available.
📝 Step 4: Climate Charts on the Batch Record
Open any batch and click Batch Record. The Environmental Records section appears near the end of the record and builds
itself from the batch's own history.
One chart per parameter, covering the whole batch. Temperature, humidity, CO2 and every other parameter you have
registered each get their own chart, running from the batch's creation to its last activity. Each chart plots the daily
average, with a dashed envelope showing that day's minimum and maximum.
A parameter reported in more than one unit gets one chart per unit, so light measured in both mol/m² and W/m² appears as
two charts rather than two lines sharing an axis. The unit is in each chart's heading.
Environmental charts on a batch record, two per row, each banded by location
Shaded bands mark the locations. The background of each chart is banded to show which location the batch was in over
that period, with the location name labelled on the band. Alternating tints separate one period from the next.
A caption names the sensors behind each chart. For example, "Daily average with the daily minimum-maximum range, across
all registered Temperature sensors (29)." The number is how many registered sensors of that type actually reported
during the batch.
The Phase and Location History table accounts for the whole batch life. Below the charts, a table lists every stage and
location the batch passed through:

!!! info "Daily resolution" The batch record charts one point per day (the daily average, computed in your facility's
timezone). The readings behind it stay available in the Environment view.
!!! tip "Leaving the section off a record" When you generate a batch record, the display settings at the top include
Show Environmental Records section?. It is on by default. Turn it off for a shorter record without the climate charts
and phase history.
🗑️ Removing a Sensor
If you registered the wrong datapoint, open Administration > Equipment, select the sensor, and click Remove Sensor in
the detail panel.
!!! warning "Readings are deleted with the sensor" Removing a sensor permanently deletes its stored readings, and this
cannot be undone. For a Priva sensor, the datapoint becomes available to register again from Add from Priva.
A sensor that is still referenced by a task or a task template item cannot be removed. GrowerIQ tells you how many of
each are pointing at it, so you can detach them first and try again.
💡 Tips
- Cover your grow locations first. A batch only gets climate charts for locations that have registered sensors. A
couple of sensors per location is enough.
- Set your facility timezone in the climate system settings tab, so daily averages line up with your calendar days.
- Fewer, better sensors. Only registered sensors are collected each hour, so registering the datapoints you actually
chart keeps the sync fast.
🔧 Troubleshooting
No readings yet after registering?
Readings arrive on the next hourly sync. Check back within the hour, or ask an administrator to check the Sync health
card in the climate system settings tab.
A sensor shows no recent readings?
The sensor may be offline or decommissioned in your climate system. Open the sensor on the Equipment page - the details
drawer shows when it last reported.
A chart is a flat line?
You may have registered a setpoint rather than a measurement. Setpoints only change when someone edits them in the
climate computer. Remove that sensor and register a reporting datapoint instead - the picker's Kind column tells them
apart.
The Environmental Records section is missing from a batch record?
Check Show Environmental Records section? in the display settings at the top of the batch record. If the batch has no
readings at all, the section says so instead of charting.
A row in the Phase and Location History table says "No sensors registered"?
The batch was in that location during that period and no sensors were registered to it. Register sensors for that
location and the charts fill in from that point on.
A row says "Location unknown"?
GrowerIQ could not resolve where the batch was for that period, which happens with batches created before locations were
recorded on the activity. The period is still listed so the record accounts for the whole batch life.
